Aurzel: A New Journey (part 2) Empty Aurzel: A New Journey (part 2)

The door slid open as soon as Aurzel stepped in front of it. Beyond was a fairly small room, just big enough for a desk to one side, an old man behind it scribbling down who knows what. What was unusual though was that there were eight doors in this small room, three to the left, three ahead and one to the right as well behind the desk, plus the one he'd just come through.
"A man said -" Aurzel began.
"One moment," the old man cut in and continued writing whatever it was he was writing. The scratching of his pen was the only thing that could be heard for several more minutes. Aurzel sighed, annoyed at having to wait but he kept his mouth shut.
"Now then what can I do for you," the old man said, finally looking up.
"Well this man said -" he began again.
"Your name kid, what is your name?" the old man cut in again.
"Aurzel." A moment later the old man was tapping away at a keyboard, his eyes glued to the monitor next to him.
"Hmm yes ... I see. You've been gone a while, your first time on planet Vegeta. Hmm ..." he clacked away for another minute before adding, "Through that door, quick quick!"
He pointed to the centre door to the left and Aurzel quickly walked through, coming into what he could only assume was an examination room.

A tall woman wearing a lab coat was standing with her back to him staring at a monitor, without turning she simply said, "Come in, up on the exam table." Aurzel hopped up onto a simple slab of metal and sat there waiting. After a moment the woman turned to him.
"Good day, I will be running you through your work up today, you may call me Karret," she held out her hand which he shook. She had a tight grip which she didnt let go of after the handshake. Instead she yanked his sleeve up and picked up a large syringe filled with some sort of clear liquid. Aurzel averted his eyes, the thought of seeing a needle go into his skin made him feel queasy.
"Just relax, it's merely a biomonitor to let us track your vitals," she returned to the monitor and waited, there were several beeps and humming sounds but he couldnt see anything as Karret was standing in front of the monitor.
"That should do it," she turned to him and motioned for him to get up, "Go back out and take the door immediately to your left."

This was getting on his nerves. After all that time in that pod the least they could do is give him a meal first, he could feel his stomach rumbling. He followed the woman's directions, Karret was it? The next door led him down a corridor which took several sharp turns before ending at an archway. As Aurzel walked through the archway he couldn't believe how big this room was, it must have been at least sixty or seventy metres long and almost as wide ... and completely empty. There were no other entrances except the one he'd come through, no windows or anything. He wondered into the middle and looked up to see a tall arching ceiling, no way he'd be able to jump that high without a very good jump.

Just as he'd finally come to terms with the size of the room as voice boomed in from an unknown source.
"Survive as long as you can!" Aurzel was scratching his head trying to figure out what they meant when his answer was made very obvious. In fact his answer flew into the room in the form of several hovering machines. They took up positions surrounding him, hovering about ten feet off the floor, there were five, no make that six. One of them opened fire. An blast of energy shot straight towards him. He quickly threw himself to the side to dodge, rolling to keep up his momentum and came up in a crouch. The blast of energy had scorched the ground that he had been standing on moments before. Not even two seconds later the second machine fired its own energy blast. He jumped to avoid this one but it arced around and came at him from the side. He ducked just in time but once again it arced towards him. He took off at a good clip along the room. As he reached the edge he jumped at the wall then propelled himself back in the opposite direction. The energy blast veered around and smashed into the wall, detonating in a fierce explosion. As he turned a third blast was right in front of him, he barely had enough time to raise his arms to defend himself.

He cried out in pain as the energy struck him head on and through him back against the wall. He managed to get to his feet though, no worse for wear. He glared at the machines, they seemed almost to be mocking him. This time two energy blasts were shot at him. Aurzel growled, angry now and ran full pelt towards the energy blasts heading straight towards him. He swerved to avoid the first and jumped up to avoid the second, his jump sending him hurtling straight towards one of the machines. He lashed out with a sharp right hook and the machine detonated in a shower of metal and sparks. Aurzel felt elated at how quickly he'd removed one of the threats but his small victory was short lived as he caught a glimpse of one of the energy blasts in his peripheral vision. They had banked to either side of him and were speeding towards him. Aurzel braced himself, crouching low as he tensed his muscles. He counted, one ... two ... and leapt into the air. An explosion detonated below him as the energy blasts collided with each other. He knew more would be on their way, he had to keep up his moment. He could feel his blood racing, adrenaline filling him as he soared upwards towards the ceiling.

This time all five units opened fire on him, five energy blasts arcing gracefully up towards him. He pushed off as his feet hit the ceiling and sped downwards, building up speed as he fell. The energy blasts missed him by mere inches. One hit the ceiling and exploded while Aurzel slammed right through one of the units. It shattered and the energy blast it had been guiding swerved around and sped off into the far wall. The other three were persistent though and followed him as he raced round the room, trying to gain some distance on them. He tried to bounce off the wall again but it didn't seem to work this time, the units must be learning his tactics. This time he ran right at the last three units and jumped right into their midst. They scattered to avoid his attack but one wasn't so lucky and collided with its own energy blast leaving two.
"Ok this is getting on my nervous!" he shouted out as he skidded to a halt and turned to face the oncoming energy blasts. He brought his arms up and was able to brace himself this time. He took both hits, the detonations covering him in light. His arms felt numb and probably badly bruised but other than that he felt almost fine. A few quick steps later and both of the remaining units lay in a heat on the floor.
"Yeah, what else you got?!" he shouted to the room, to who ever might be listening.
Almost immediately in answer there was a buzzing sounds and ten more units entered the room along with the booming voice saying, "Round Two."
Aurzel's face quickly changed to a look of suprise, "Uhoh ..."
